Shots Fired, Officer Down
A Story of Courage, Perseverance and Faith
After the evening of March 7, 2003, Marcus Young’s life had changed forever. As a uniformed police officer, Marcus found himself in a violent life and death struggle with an armed gang member. The psychopath attempted to murder Marcus by shooting him five times, including once through the head and another bullet shattering his right arm. Marcus ultimately won the bloody confrontation. Over two years, dedicated surgeons attempted to rebuild Marcus arm, shoulder, and back so he could return to active duty as a police officer, but despite their skilled efforts that dream never became a reality. With the love and support of his family, Marcus completed his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of San Francisco and serves his community as a college administrator, as well as being a professional speaker and aspiring writer.
Marcus will share his powerful story of courage, perseverance and faith as he brings to life the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson to life: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
Marcus will also share simple lessons that anyone can apply to overcome challenges and adversities in their life.
